Enjoyable Read

I took a chance on this book as I had never read anything by this author, and was happy I did. The hero (Lucas) in this story has lived in exile in America for the past 4 years because he and even his family believe he killed a man after hitting him. He has just returned to England, and meets Helena (the heroine) at a ball. Helena is an attractive young woman, but lives in the shadow of her sister's beauty and selfishness. At this ball, Helena overheard 2 men talking about the man Lucas supposedly killed, and learns that not only that these men may have framed Lucas --- but they are determined to kill him also.
In addition to this mystery to be solved, there is the growing Romance between our hero and heroine. Helena is quick-witted, and is determined not only to help save Lucas' life, but also to identify the 2 men she heard plotting in the garden so that Lucas' name can be cleared and the true culprits brought to justice.
There is a deliciously written scene where a former mistress of Lucas partners with another gentleman to try to trick Helena into thinking that she has stumbled onto an assignation between the jealous former mistress and Lucas. There is a stunningly good reaction by Helena, and the verbal sparring between the former mistress and Helena is wickedly good.
I enjoyed this book as much as other books by more seasoned HR authors.
It should also be noted that Ms. Clee not only introduces the main characters for the next book, but also sets the stage for her next novel in this book.

Too much sex early on

The blurb sounded good and the author's style is not off putting. However, I quit reading at 25%, so tired of reading about how horny the H is and his descriptive sexual fantasizing about her when she's standing in front of him. Well placed lust and sex is all good and fine. It all felt so rushed. Others will like it just fine so this review is geared toward those like me who get want a story not overwhelmed by detailed sex.

Each Book Gets Better

I thought A Curse of the Heart was an excellent read. I just finished reading this one and it is so much better. Adele is a very witty writer and much of her dialogue between characters adds much humor to the story. I love her heroes - both Gabriel and Lucas are outcasts from the Ton, but each find love with strong, spirited women, who, too, are looked down on by the Ton.

This book had an excellent plot, it moved fast, and kept me engaged to the end. I like that characters from one book appear in the other one, without being exactly a series. Each book is a stand alone novel. I am now ready to read What You Desire.

About the Author
Hank Perritt is law professor based in Chicago. He has written and produced a musical and two full-length plays and written a screenplay for a movie now in production. He is the author of Arian, a novel featuring some of the same characters as Jovan, published on 1 February 2012, and available on Amazon. He also has written extensively on Internet law, employment law, international relations, and on the future of the music and movie industries, including two books about Kosovo. He has a strong technology background and experience in analyzing the design of network systems and systems for electronic surveillance. He rowed lightweight crew as a freshman at MIT. Great read!

This is a fantastic mystery/thriller and worth the read. Characters essential to the plot are well developed. Even some of the minor characters are fully focused. The plot moves quickly, but in a manner that is consistent and well planned.

The interplay of strengths, weaknesses and character flaws is very well developed.

Don't do it to yourselves

If you're looking for a smart, sassy, quick read, this is NOT the book for you.
I really wanted to like this. I really did, but it was appallingly bad.
Badly written, weak character development, weak plot, and redundant.

Are we sure the author isn't a 16 year old girl?
Get a sample first, you'll be happy you didn't waste your money

Mostly sweet story but weak heroine

Ava Mae Evans and Nate Garrison have been crushing on each other for years. When their paths cross again, they find the same pull they had since their teen years.

This is a pretty sweet, angst-free story of two old “friends” that get the chance to reconnect and have a real relationship, their only perceived obstacle being her older brother, his best friend.

I have to be honest; their “perceived obstacle” grated the feminist side of me. Ava is a college student, turning 20—an adult. Why she needs her big brother’s approval on whom to date simply felt archaic. I get that most brothers don’t want to see their little sister taken advantage of, but this was simply not the case here nor were we given any indication that Nate had been a man-whore in the past to which he wouldn’t be trustworthy with her heart. On top of that, her brother isn’t even around, and when he does show up…well to avoid spoilers I’ll just say he’s not someone, based off his attitude, whose opinion I’d value.

If you enjoy a bit of an old-fashioned love story, then you won’t have any issues with this one. However, if you prefer a strong female lead who doesn’t let her life be run by putting other people’s overbearing ideas ahead of her own feelings, then Ava Mae will certainly disappoint you. As for Nate, his personality was a little too “she’s mine” right off the bat—I think I craved either a little more background or build-up— but as the story reached its climax, he seemed to be the one with the most common sense. Overall, an okay read.

I wanted to like this book. A girl falling in love with her brothers best friend is one of my favorite story lines but this book was just flat. The writing was choppy and the dialog was sappy. I wouldn't be surprised if the author was 15 year old high school student it was that Disney.

Ken Howard, LCSW, author of, "Self-Empowerment: Have the Life You Want!" has been working as a psychotherapist for over 19 years and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in full-time private practice in Los Angeles, California. This Book Was So Helpful

What I appreciate so much about this book is what a balanced and open approach author Ken Howard uses.

In order to have a healthy and productive life, all areas have to be in synchrony: mental health, career, finances, family, relationships/sex, community, and spirituality. If any of these are out of balance, it affects the whole. Example, someone could be in excellent physical health, but can't balance a checkbook. Eventually, this imbalance is going to spill over to other areas of this person's life.

Community is so important, because we have been put on this planet to do more than just earn a living and pay our bills. Feeling like you belong is very important as well as being close to the things you enjoy doing, if it's a living situation that needs to be sustainable.

I particularly liked the parts about spirituality, because it's something not talked about much in the medical/mental health fields. Ken does a great job of explaining spirituality (and distinguishing it from religion because they are very different), and how having some sense of it contributes to overall well-being.

I liked Ken's kind and genuine helpfulness and personal writing style. He reminds us that nobody is perfect, and that we are all a work in progress.

Wonderfully positive and encouraging!

Not only is this book laid out easily by topics and concepts, but I found the language and tone remarkably positive without sounding contrived. Reading it, you really feel like he's talking directly to you and genuinely cares about your well-being; not something I've experienced in similar books. The case studies were also very helpful in providing real-world examples of the kinds of steps he talks about. Would highly recommend to anyone who feels "stuck" in life, regardless of whether you're dealing with a major crisis or just feeling like you want more control over your existence.

A Great Life Skills Book

Ken's book is informative, educational, eye opening, valuable and well written. It's easy to understand and above all, helpful to everyone from all walks of life. It's laid out extremely well and covers areas of importance such as mental health, health, relationships and sex, career, finances, family, community and spirituality. I could pretty well guarantee topics covered will resonate directly with you or remind you of someone you know.

Ken has a very conversational way of writing that makes for an easy read. Even as he expresses crucial points and provides information he never forgets to pepper topics with his humor. How often would you have liked to have a teacher in school teach and make you laugh or smile at the same time?

I highly recommend Ken's book. Valuable tools and tips for everyone that wants to have a better, richer life.

Title is deceiving...

Having been in practice for the last 25 years, I have seen a few of the procedures described in this book. (And then some.) Now teaching at the university level, I try to find textbooks that embody what the cover suggests. As for Jaffe's book: the accuracy is fair, but the way in which it is written is rather insulting to the anesthesiologist's intelligence. This book puts the emphasis on the surgeon's role and viewpoint as being paramount. There is a noticable lack of patient safety and comfort that is considered. This is, after all, why we are there. For documentation of specific surgical protocol, this is a reasonable text. For actual practice, there are better sources of information. Most who have been through residency know the ones I mean. Either change the name to "Surgical Procedures from the Surgeon's Point of View" or add information that would provide insight thus allowing the anesthesia practitioner to tailor their anesthetic to enhance the patient's overall surgical/anesthetic experience.

Not bad, but

It doesn't describe all the procedures accurately, and sometimes the descrption of the procedures doesn`t change my anesthetic plan. I think it was written from a surgery point of view, rather than the anesthesiologist

She seems to have some sort of weird thing for cults as well, and boy, nothing really pumps her up like a good old-fashioned angel cult. When she isn't off adding to her manuscript collection, A. M. enjoys long walks in the pitch black of night, the company of friends and cats, and wearing cute clothes.

wonderfully vivid and imaginative. plenty to ponder and a decently satisfying end. left a lot of questions unanswered tho and some characterization seemed inconsistent even within the bounds of the stories rules

Angel Radio by A.M. Blaushild was the best YA novel I’ve read in years

It’s compelling, imaginative, and by about the end of the first third, the book will have completely hooked you if it hasn’t already. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a YA novel with supernatural elements, a bi protagonist with a romance arc that doesn’t detract from the plot in the slightest, and fun and engaging action sequences.
