Earl Swokowski authored multiple editions of numerous successful textbooks, including CALCULUS; CALCULUS OF A SINGLE VARIABLE; FUNDAMENTALS OF COLLEGE ALGEBRA; and PRECALCULUS: FUNCTIONS AND GRAPHS, all published by Cengage Learning Brooks/Cole.

Jeffery A. Cole has been teaching mathematics and computer science at Anoka-Ramsey Community College since fall 1981. He started working on the Swokowski series of precalculus texts in 1985 as an ancillary author, and has been a co-author since 1991. His contribution to the Swokowski texts also includes joining the revision team of the calculus text in 1989.

Kindle Edition is Useless

I try to buy Kindle editions of my textbooks whenever possible. But the publisher hasn't gone to the trouble to convert the math formulas into graphics - so they don't display on the screen. It didn't matter if I displayed it on my Kindle, or on one of the apps on another device - the problem is in the content.

It's hard to learn math when every "+", "-", "" and "=" sign has been edited out of the book, much less exponents and radicals.

There is a free limited trial of a small section of this book for Kindle. I would recommend downloading it and taking a look (to see if the publisher has fixed these problems) before committing to a purchase.

Worst textbook I've ever used.

When I get stuck on a math problem I'm in the habit of looking back through the lesson for examples or useful information. That method does not work with this book. It presents problems that it hasn't explained how to solve. I am very good at math and very good at using my resources to solve problems. Thank goodness for the internet and my old textbooks, otherwise I would rarely have known what was happening in this class. I realize that maybe (for example) it's using information given in chapter 5 to solve problems in chapter 7. That's unhelpful because most teachers can't fit the entire book in a semester and will skip select chapters. Also, you don't know where to find the information you're looking for when it's not in the chapter that you're studying. A little refresher when it's relevant could be very handy in this book.
A very frustrating thing about this book is all the wrong answers in the back. Our instructor confirmed that there are indeed many wrong answers. His guess was that when they updated from the last edition they changed some problems but failed to change the corresponding solution. It's incredibly frustrating when you're learning and you think you have a correct answer because you followed all the steps and continue to get the same answer but it's different from what the book tells you. You have to ask yourself if you're doing it completely wrong or if the book has yet another incorrect answer.
If you're an instructor who uses this book and your students are struggling more than they should, consider looking for another textbook.

Great textbook and Rigourous Problems

The textbook that is provided by Swokowski and cole present great resources of examples and thorough explination of fundamental concepts. Having this textbook myself, it is composed of challenging problems that will be needed to work out calculus problems. This book has several step by step explanations for some problems, but I think they can add more worked out explanation; however, students shouldn't complain that there is not enough explinations becuase it is a "review" of everything they have learned. That explains the lack worked out problem. Overall, this textbook is really good, and I would recommend it to anyone who wishes to buy. Heck, I even learn on my own just from reading of this textbook.

This little book by Martin Schulman is basically a "cookbook" of descriptions on how to read the Moon's Nodes (Dragon's Head and Dragon's Tail) through the signs and houses but don't be fooled! This is one of the most important books ever written for the professional astrologer.
All modern astrologers read the Moon's Nodes and Schulman's book is the best way to learn them. You can give your clients information from these books that will change their entire orientation toward life for the better. I have personally tested his material in the fires of life for 20 years with my astrology clients and I would swear by the information in this book.
Schulman also gives a very good description of what karma is -- and isn't. Buy this book for an invaluable basic reference for your astrology library. The other books in the series will follow naturally, as night follows day :)

A Must on Nodes!

I am not a professional astrologer, but have had readings done by them, and have wondered how they knew things about #1) Nodes in general, as there are few books that even touch on the subject; and #2) where info on reincarnation in astrology was found. This book covers both subjects and helped me understand myself and others much, much better. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in these subjects and the fact that it is exceptionally easy to read and understand is a BIG plus!

This is the (current) climax of the Darkfallen spinoff series. You don't need to have read anything else to enjoy them, but for this one I would highly reccomend reading Taking Jacob and Expanding Elena first for full enjoyment. Even if you don't, it's clearly written and rather easy to follow, but you'll miss out on the heights of what this story has to offer.

Put simply, it's my favourite erotic story. Every single word is perfectly placed to excite and tease, both of the lovely ladies in the book so unbelievably sexy in every single action they do, every word they speak. I've never before read something quite so utterly arousing, through and through. Every scene is well planned, with conventional sex acts being described in a better way than I have ever seen before, and new ideas are presented that will surely spark the imagination of any naughty mind.

If you like creative, kinky erotica, where the guy is quite firmly on, or rather, under the bottom, then you will adore this book. Jacob has finally gotten the fate he so desperately needed, and Elena is coming along just fine on her path to corruption. I only read this yesterday, and already I'm aching to indulge in it again, and begging that a sequel comes sooner rather than later.

A story that's both dark and erotic, depraved and explicit

Taking Jacob & Making Jacob are a pair of stories set in the Darkfallen world of Leona D. Reish. Right off the bat, I love the sense of a greater, deeper, wider mythology that she's developed with her Darkfallen world, even if it's only hinted at here. These are stories that make you want to read more, and uncover that larger story.

Jacob's descent into supernatural submission is well-playing, making the macho rebel slowly give into the sexual whiles of his succubus mistress. He fights it, mentally, but cannot deny the ways in which his body betrays him. It's interesting that Reish allows him to taste a bit of his old self before breaking him completely, and it's that mental/emotional aspect that makes this work so well.

As sex-fueled demons go, Kynthia is quite a treat for the eyes. She's sinister and seductive, but possessed of an otherworldly beauty that makes her impossible to resist. The level of detail here is top-notch, especially in the way she sucks the masculinity out of Jacob, leaving them both to transform before our eyes. It's a story that's both dark and erotic, depraved and explicit, but it never loses sight of the larger mythology. Definitely an acquired taste, but well-worth exploring for lovers of erotic horror.

If you liked Anne of Green Gables, read this book

This book has the same charm and story telling as Anne of Green Gables. It concentrates on a family on P.E. Island and the various adventures of the young band of cousins growing up together. If you recall the old Disney Channel show "Avonlea", this book is where most of the main characters originated, with some name changes.

I have read this book many times since I was 13, and I'm 19 now. I think the ending is very sad, the realisation that we all have to grow up, and the hints we are given about the future of the characters we have grown to love. I was near tears reading about cecily, and the ending seemed so final. We can never return to our childhood, but we can remember the good times in reading this book. Whereas the Story Girl, although a fascinating book, is, in reality, little more than a stringing together of many stories, in this book the characters are properly developed.

One of the Two books I have read over and over....

The Golden Road and its prequel, The Story Girl, are two of the best books I have ever read. I never seem to get tired of them, either...I have read them countless times! If you enjoy L. M. Montgomery's novels, such as the Anne of Green Gables series, these books are a must. The Golden Road tells the story of cousins, Beverley (who narrates the story), Felix, Cecily, Felicity, Dan, and Sara Stanley, also known as the Story Girl, plus their friends Peter, the hired boy, and Sara Ray. The adventures these eight have are sometimes exiting, sometimes sad...but mostly really funny! For instance, one time, they have the governors wife to tea...but they think she's their deaf Aunt Eliza and comment on the governors big nose and such things! And Felicity accidentally bakes tooth-powder rusks...oh, I can't tell you the whole book! Read it for yourself!

This is my favorite Sandra Boynton book! I read it to my oldest daughter every night, and she started to "read" it along with me when she was very young. It is so sweet and fun, and the textures just add to the enjoyment. Where's my binket??!! Right here, little dinosaur...

About the Author

Gregory Dess
Gregory G. Dess is the Andrew R. Cecil Endowed Chair in Management at the University of Texas at Dallas. His primary research interests are in strategic management, organization–environment relationships, and knowledge management. He has published numerous articles on these subjects in both academic and practitioner-oriented journals. He also serves on the editorial boards of a wide range of practitioner-oriented and academic journals. In August 2000, he was inducted into the Academy of Management Journal’s Hall of Fame as one of its charter members. Professor Dess has conducted executive programs in the United States, Europe, Africa, Hong Kong, and Australia. During 1994 he was a Fulbright Scholar in Oporto, Portugal. In 2009, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bern (Switzerland). He received his PhD in Business Administration from the University of Washington (Seattle) and a BIE degree from Georgia Tech.

Gerry McNamara
Gerry McNamara is a Professor of Management at Michigan State University. He received his PhD from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. His research focuses on strategic decision making, organizational risk taking, and mergers and acquisitions. His research has been published in numerous journals, including the Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Management, and Journal of International Business Studies. His research on mergers and acquisitions has been abstracted in the New York Times, Bloomberg Businessweek, The Economist, and Financial Week. He is currently an Associate Editor for the Academy of Management Journal.

Alan Eisner
Alan B. Eisner is Professor of Management and Department Chair, Management and Management Science Department, at the Lubin School of Business, Pace University. He received his PhD in management from the Stern School of Business, New York University. His primary research interests are in strategic management, technology management, organizational learning, and managerial decision making. He has published research articles and cases in journals such as Advances in Strategic Management, International Journal of Electronic Commerce, International Journal of Technology Management, American Business Review, Journal of Behavioral and Applied Management, and Journal of the International Academy for Case Studies. He is the former Associate Editor of the Case Association’s peer reviewed journal, The CASE Journal.

It was not what I expected. I received no value from the rental due to the fact that I needed the material for chapter 11 to do a big presentation for my course and sure enough, that's one of the chapters that was not in this book.

Prof. Dr. med. Manfred Cierpka, Arzt für Psychiatrie, Facharzt für Psychotherapeutische Medizin, Psychoanalytiker und Familientherapeut. Nach dem Medizinstudium und der Facharztausbildung habilitierte er an der Universität Ulm, danach wurde er Professor für Psychosomatik und Familientherapie an der Universität Göttingen. Seit 1998 Ärztlicher Direktor des Instituts für Psychosomatische Kooperationsforschung und Familientherapie am Universitätsklinikum Heidelberg. Autor vieler Bücher; bei Springer „Handbuch der Familiendiagnostik, 3. Auflage". Mitherausgeber des „Psychotherapeut". Mitorganisator der Lindauer Psychotherapiewochen.
