Really fun!

It's 1000 dots.... So I don't know how much input the other review contributes...if the dots were any bigger the pictures would have to be insanely big. Yes it's tricky, but if you want easy head to the children's section. My only issue are sometimes I find the locations of the dots to be completely random which makes it especially difficult. That being said it's super fun. I find the drawings to be more artistic in the end compared to regular dot to dot books. This is definitely not for the faint of heart but it's a lovely way to spend the time that doesn't involve a computer.

Great for wagon rides!

The title of these dot-to-dot books should give you an idea of how many dots are on a page....a lot! And of course that means the numbers are going to be very small. I appreciate some of the other reviewers stating that these can be difficult and take some time to complete, but some of the negative reviews are pretty harsh and sound like they are just written by a bunch of grumpy people with no patience.

To sum it up:
It's a lot of dots.
The numbers are very small.
It takes some time to complete.
This is not a My Little Pony dot-to-dot.
The finished product is amazing.

Don't be turned off by the negative reviews. Good thing Amazon reviews didn't exist in the 1800s when folks were moving West, we never would have gotten past the Mississippi River: "The wagon ride is harsh and the days are long. 2 mules died and we ran out of potatoes. I wish I had stayed home in my log cabin in Virginia. I give this trip 1 star".
These are fantastic, challenging dot-to-dots that are great for passing the time....especially if you're in a wagon going West.

Not for the faint of heart! ...

I got into doing dot-to-dot puzzles back in the early 2000s with the David Kalvitis books, then sort of lost interest. Recently I got into coloring books for grown-ups, and this popped up on a "recommendations" list. I was intrigued, so I ordered it.

I'm definitely impressed. As others have noted, the numbers and dots are VERY small. If you don't already have excellent "reading" vision, you'll likely need some sort of magnifier to help. But each 100 numbers is a different color, so that helps keep track of where you are and where the next number might be. This is a large book -- about 10" x 14" -- and each puzzle occupies one single removable page. I take the page out of the book and use a large clipboard while I'm working on it.

The completed pictures are quite nice, too -- definitely frameable! And it's a great way to kill time on a trip or just to chill out and relax at home.

I'll be purchasing additional books by this artist -- winter is approaching, and our Pacific NW weather is conducive to cozying up indoors. I've ordered another pair of reading glasses, too, so I'm all set. :-)

I was torn between a 4-star and 5-star review, and opted for 5. With the proper equipment (good lighting and magnifier), this is a good option for when I don't feel like coloring. So yes, I love it.

Alistair Cooke enjoyed an extraordinary life in print, radio and television. Born in Manchester in 1908 and educated at the universities of Cambridge, Yale and Harvard, he was the Guardian's Senior Correspondent in New York for twenty-five years and the host of groundbreaking cultural programmes on American television and of the BBC series America. He was, however, best known both at home and abroad for his weekly BBC broadcast Letter from America, which reported on fifty-eight years of US life, was heard over five continents and totalled 2,869 broadcasts before his retirement in February 2004, far and away the longest-running radio series in broadcasting history.

An all class act

Many of us who appreciate the work of truly great non-fiction writers were deeply saddened by the recent passing of Alistair Cooke.

Although best remembered for his long running radio commentary "A Letter from America" and his various television shows of earlier years, it makes for a pleasant change to go back and rediscover some of Mr Cooke's more substantial literary efforts.

A graduate in English literature from Cambridge University and a print journalist of considerable experience, Cooke managed to perfect a difficult balancing act. Throughout his long and prestigious career he steadfastly adhered to the highest professional and intellectual standards yet still managed to enjoy enviable success within the mass media. In many ways he raised the bar in his field by proving that there was, indeed, a solid market for quality work if it was cleverly presented in an entertaining and accessible style.

In this book the veteran newspaper man draws upon his impressive array of observational and descriptive skills to create a striking collection of penetrating celebrity profiles. Cooke wrote with the deft, light hand of a popular scribe but also with the probing incisiveness of a psychology professor. At all times he examined the inner workings of his subjects with an almost clinical thoroughness and a commendable sense of fairness. When it came to creating word pictures, the man was an old master.

Insightful and Unbiased

As is usual with any of Alistair Cooke's writing, that unmistakable transatlantic voice can be heard behind the words as if the author himself was reading his work to an audience of one - you. The generations who would remember the men of whom he has written are fast coming to an end, but there is enough in each of these insightful vignettes to whet the appetite of a true biography-phile of whatever era. I would say that Cooke enjoyed the company of each of his subjects, but that did not put him beyond objective honesty. The saddest, most poignant and ultimately most honest comment of all was that of his summing up of Edward VIII - "The most damning epitaph you can compose about Edward - as a prince, as a king, as a man - is one that all comfortable people should cower from deserving:he was at his best only when the going was good"

BUY THIS BOOK!!!

This is a fantastic book full of key information for people who want to begin vaping. Donald Blakely is a wonderful writer who covers pro, cons, and be carefuls. His friendly, to the point, concise writing style makes me feel as though he is right beside me as a guide, teacher, and mentor. It is very easy to locate and re-read important information. Plus I learned many things I was unaware of such as such conditions such as "Vapers Tongue" and dehydration. I'm living outside the US in a large mega city in China but I'm not aware of any vaping shops like one can easily find in America. Nor can I access You Tube tutorial videos. This book and his follow up "Bigger Clouds" are valuble companions and references.
If you are thinking of starting to vape BUY THIS BOOK!!! It's a treasure trove of valuable information. In fact save yourself some time and order both "I Want To Vape" and "Bigger Clouds" together.

A great beginners guide for anybody first starting out.

Although I've been vaping for about 2 1/2 years, I still felt as though I had more to learn. So I purchased Donald Blakely's first 2 books in his 3 or 4 book series. I also purchased this first book with the idea of passing it along to any of my friends and family that want to start vaping. And I'm so glad I read it. It's a well written book that explains everything you need to know when first starting out, in the world of vaping. Mr. Blakely did a wonderful job!!! I'm so glad I purchased this book. I can now pass it down to a few of my family members that have expressed an interest in vaping. He's done a much better job of explaining all aspects of vaping, than I could EVER do!!! LoL. Thank you Donald Blakely. :-)

Well written and easy to read

Very solid set of information. Well written and easy to read. I've been vaping for a year now and it filled in a lot of gaps for me. Well worth the money. There are a few typos but that's not a big deal at all. There is some great advice in here. I will be using this as a reference in the coming months and years and I've already bought vol.2. I was a little skeptical about his credibility, but then again i'm a pretty skeptical person with some exceptions obviously. Then I realized that there are no credentials in this field and a little faith is healthy. He says he's done his research and it certainly seems like it. The book is well thought out and well organized. Scientific research moves much slower than the industry and practices of vaping and so mostly we have to rely on anecdotal evidence and of course, each other, which is one thing that is very solid about the vaping community on average. Whatever your purpose, this book is worth buying.

About the Author

Sue Pelletier is an artist, mother and teacher, not always in that order. She has taught elementary school art in Dover, MA for 25 years. She has been published several times in Cloth Paper Scissors, as well as Somerset Studio and various other Stampington magazines. Sue's artwork has been on four magazine covers. She also has two DVD's out with Interweave, featuring textural surfaces and innovative ways to use mediums in your art. Sue teaches a few online classes and teaches internationally with large mixed media venues such as Create and Art Is You, as well as smaller more intimate venues in studios and shops around the country. She has also been a guest columnist for Create Mixed Media.

So Fun and Accessible

I first learned of Sue when I read the blog of a lady who had taken two classes with her. WOW, did I love the work and wished I could have been there. This book is the next best thing. Sue doesn't waste time and try our patience by writing long paragraphs about the materials as though we are neophytes who just woke up yesterday not knowing what a paintbrush does. She jumps right in with fabulous ideas and techniques and examples that get you excited about the possibilities. Better yet, she does not present only art that someone with exceptional skill and long years of practice can achieve. These pieces are do-able by anyone and the results are fun and fantastic!

I have only read halfway through this book and already completed two pieces; just couldn't wait! Thanks so much for the inspiration, Sue. I hope to take a class with you in "real life" soon.

The beginning artist and the seasoned artist will find projects that inspire, challenge and thrill them. And, anyone who ever longed to try an art project but was afraid to do it, BUY THIS BOOK AS YOU WILL GET HOOKED ON THE PROJECTS AND FALL IN LOVE WITH ART! The author has a gift for easy to follow directions leading to a stellar result! There is a material list, a great introduction, awesome, hand drawn pictures and it is truly a really "fun read". You feel like the author is talking to you, personally, and by the way, she likes you! This is my first Amazon review for any product, yet I always read the reviews and buy accordingly. You buy this book and you will fall in love with it. Pure and simply, it is awesome.... yes it is!

About the Author
Ekaterina Lukasheva is a contemporary origami artist from Russia. She was first acquainted with origami as a young student, quickly adopting it as her hobby. Her interest continued to increase as she began her studies at Lomonosov Moscow State University as a student of mathematics and cybernetics. It was then that she began inventing her own unique, modular origami models. After a successful launch of her website, http://www.kusudama.me, she unwittingly developed a fan base from around the world. Bolstered by worldwide interest and support for her origami explorations and inspired by origami artists such as Tomoko Fuse and Robert Lang, Ekaterina has gathered some of her favorite models to share in her first book on modular origami: Kusudama Origami. Ekaterina Lukasheva was born in Moscow, Russia. She graduated from Lomonosov MSU, receiving her PhD four years later. She lives with her husband Boris and their cat Eva.

A must-have delightful book!

This is the author's second book on modular origami and the designs are only getting better! Beautifully presented with careful details, the book is a must-have for all modular origami lovers. There is a separate section dedicated to assembly rules which may be very useful to newcomers. Modular origami units are usually relatively simple to fold but people often stumble during assembly. The assembly section with clear explanations is bound to help.

The photos are breathtaking and the designs are delightful. The assemblies are reasonably stable without glue for moderate handling. I highly recommend the book.

About the Author
Charles I. Jones is the STANCO Professor of Economics at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He received his Ph.D. from MIT in 1993. He is well known for his research and papers on long-run economic growth. Jones is equally well known as an educator with a gift for distilling complicated subjects down to their essence and making them accessible to all levels of students. He is the author of Introduction to Economic Growth, Third Edition (2013).

Dietrich Vollrath (Ph.D. Brown, 2005) is Associate Professor (with tenure) of Economics at the University of Houston. He is an up-and-coming scholar in long-run economic growth.
