Halloween read for all ages

This is a short story and good at this time of year with Halloween coming up. I read it as a kid and pulled it out to read to my little cousins. Marnie and Andy go into a shop and are given a tooth as a gift. It's odd, but cool especially when they find that it makes wishes come true. This isn't a genie lamp though. The more it's used the more odd Marnie acts, especially when the tooth is missing. Late at night they start to hear howling and that's when things get spooky.

The Goosebumps books are always a great length with each page adding to the story. They are all with young people in mind so there is no bad language, etc. My cousins really enjoyed the story at 11 and 6. R.L. Stine is a great author. I have her other Goosebumps books as well.

This wasn’t one of my favorites from the newer line of Goosebumps books, but I can see where it fits into the HorrorLand puzzle. I found the main character to be a little dim, and his counterpart, the deceitful, spoiled cousin he spends his time with despite her bad attitude, extremely unlikable. I think it’s possible that Stine phoned this one in.

cheesy picture book. low on details

I was really disappointed in this one--there are lots of photos like the one on the cover, which show nothing. There are no detailed drawings, and few detailed descriptions of techniques (oddly, a whole section on shaving!!) If you want substance, I suggest the "Tickle his Pickle" and "Ride'Em Cowgirl" books--silly titles but full of very detailed drawings and descriptions of techniques, along with some very sweet humor, both from Dr. Sadie Allison.

I love the concept of the book...illustrating oral sex through pictures, but feel that this book feel far short of that. There is very little in the way of technique or new ideas presented. That would be fine wihh me if the pictures and illustrations had excited us, but we kept turning the pages looking for the "good ones." The poses are very stylized...and not at all what we were hoping for.

The grammar explanations are very clear, straightforward and succint. It's oriented toward practice, with lots of exercises. I found this grammar very user-friendly, both in terms of finding topics and of understanding concepts. It is invaluable help for anyone studying German! However, I do not suggest it as the first and only source for beginners, as the explanations may be unclear to those with no previous knowledge of German. Finally (which may be a problem): the key to the exercises is not included with the book, but has to be purchased separately.

It isn't a reference grammar

I ordered this book per the recommendation of a college instructor. I was a little disappointed because I was expecting a grammar to help with my German reading similar to one I use in a Latin or Greek class. It didn't have much more to offer than the textbook I used last year, and isn't very user-friendly for looking up any specific grammar points. As others have noted, there are no answers for the exercises, which doesn't make them very useful, if you can't figure out if you are doing them correctly. Perhaps I misunderstood what this book is meant to be used for, but because of the title, I was expecting a reference grammar, which this definitely is not.

Tired of RPG/400, JCL and the like? Here's a ticket out

If you're seeking a book that will prepare you for a career as a web developer, this isn't what you're looking for. It's neither a programming tutorial nor a book on specific environments, such as .NET. However, if you're doing maintenance programming in, say, RPG/400 or writing JCL and are wondering how you can refactor your skills and get out of the mid-range and mainframe environment this book is ideal.
Solid programming skills are assumed (preferably in C or C++, but that isn't essential). You should have a basic understanding of databases and data structures. If you have these skills this book will systematically familiarize you with the web programming environment and common tools and programming languages that you'll need to master in order to transition out of the data center. I like the way the book touches all of the key knowledge areas, starting with HTML and going through javascript, perl and the usual cast of mark-up, scripting and programming languages. More importantly, this book doesn't skim the surface - it does into databases, XML and server-side development. If you've read the table of contents and are tempted to question why CGI was included in such a relatively new book, bear in mind that most of the information in this book is ideal for maintenance programmers, and there are literally thousands of systems that still employ CGI scripts. This also reinforces my opinion about who will benefit most from this book - maintenance programmers from mid-range and mainframe environments.
