Color photography was still a rare thing in the 1930s and 1940s. Various systems of color photography had been tried, and the Germans had great success with the agfacolor process. This meant that color photographs could be easily produced with basic chemicals and equipment in rudimentary darkrooms close to the action. Propaganda units were armed with Leica cameras and color film and their images appeared in a number of official German publications including the Luftwaffe’s own magazine, Der Adler, and books aimed at home front audience. Here, over 100 color and 50 black and white images have been assembled to tell the story of the war as it unfolded.

Luftwaffe Color Pix!

John Christopher's LUFTWAFFE IN COLOUR is an interesting, full-color photo-guide to Luftwaffe aircrew, equipment and ops in the Second World War.

A 2014 Amberley Publishing release, Christopher's book features over 130 color images snapped by Propaganda Kompanie photographers and featured in German magazines such as DER ADLER and SIGNAL along with various wartime German-language books. Included are pix of aircrew and ground crew including famous GAF pilots like Rudel, aircraft of Luftwaffe aircraft, in-flight shots, combat scenes, airfield shots, AA gun-crews, Luftwaffe paratroops, shot-down enemy aircraft, etc.

Pluses and minuses: Many of the pix in Christopher's book have published elsewhere but it's nice to have so many under one cover. Many of the shots look like second-generation images (i.e. copied from the magazine pages) but what the heck, you take what you can get! Price is so-so; $34.95.

In any case, LUFTWAFFE IN COLOUR should appeal to GAF buffs and anyone interested in World War II's air war. Recommended.

Annoying writing style

While the characters and general plot were interesting, the author used an informal style as though someone was talking or thinking that I found annoying. While informality can be useful to bring you into a story, this was overly done with a lot of side comments such as "which, yes, was totally a thing" or "she was totally not addicted to that drink, by the way" or "shut up" added either directly to the descriptions or in parenthesis beside them. Instead of being warm and inviting, it came across as sarcastic and acidic.

There were also unnecessary details that I found grating. For example, while the main character is 1/2 way through a meal with her friends, she is described as sipping from "her already open can of Diet Coke". Of course it is opened. She should have been drinking from it throughout the meal.

Several times the wrong version of a word or a completely wrong word was used. These were probably from earlier versions of a sentence not accurately edited. I'm used to that on these straight to Kindle books by now, so I just flagged them for correction and moved on.

The most annoying for me however, was that the author apparently didn't remember the characters' names. Rather than using their names, or even a well placed "he" or "she", the characters were usually either described by their hair color, skin color, or nationality. It irritated me enough that I did a word search on my Kindle. The word blonde or blond is used 231 times to describe people rather than using their names or he/she. Considering all three main characters (2 women and 1 man) were blonde, this got irritating if not confusing. When "the blonde" did something, it was hard to tell which one. Her best friend was called "the brunette" 23 times and "the dark-skinned girl" 9 times. "The Brit" was used to describe 2 of the characters 78 times and "the American" was used to describe the main character 5 times. I would have preferred a "he" or "she" instead.

Distracting writing style

DNF. I could not get over the writing style enough to become involved in the story. Distracting asides and I found myself counting the number of times she referred to the main character as "the blonde."

Was the editor a fifth grader?

I wanted to like this book, I really did but I can't. Every character is constantly referred to by a random trait. The blonde, the dark skinned girl, the blond, the other blond, the Brit, the Blond Brit. (Did I mention "the blonde" three times? That's because the three main characters are blonde. This means when two or three of them are interacting the reader has to go back several times to figure out who is saying what. This is problematic because it yanks the reader out of the story each and every time. Also there are several times that the author breaks the forth wall and goes from narration of events to talking directly to the reader. (She tells the reader to "shut up" multiple times and it gets annoying really fast. The plot is intriguing, but the author needs to hire an editor to clean it up and then re-release it!

The two have been sent off on their first mission by Master Yoda, who has given them a boring assignment: overseeing the elections on Gala, where Prince Beju has been forced to submit his promised throne to a popular vote. As usual for our Jedi heroes, though, nothing goes quite as planned--on the way to Gala they get hijacked to Phindar, where the evil Syndicat rules by erasing the memories of its enemies. Faster than the flick of a lightsaber, master and apprentice find themselves back in hot water, struggling to help their Phindarian buddies overthrow the Syndicat crime lords. After a double-cross here and a blaster fight there, the two discover that even Prince Beju is involved in the Syndicat's nefarious schemes. fine 3rd instalment about Obi-Wan's apprenticeship

Obi-Wan has at last become the Padawan of Qui-Gon Jinn and is about to leave on his first official mission. Things couldnt be better, right? Think again! The Jedi are kidnapped and taken to Phindar, a planet ruled by a criminal who has people's memories erased. Things only get worse when one of the Jedis falls into his clutches and is slated for a memory wipe!

This is an exciting story and explores further the developing relationship between Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. Auxiliary characters are fun, especially the jovial Derida brothers, and Yoda is present in spirit if not body. There are a few battles but violence is not graphic.

In my opinion, the best Jedi Apprentice book!

After the exciting adventures in "The Rising Force" and "The Dark Rival", Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi are now Master and Padawan. They are sent together on their first official mission to the planet of Gala. For many years the planet has been ruled by the Beju-Tallah dynasty but now the queen has decided to give an election for the new ruler. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn's mission is to observe to make sure the elections go smoothly. But they never get a chance to even reach the planet as they are hijacked to the planet of Phindar. The Jedis find out that their hijacking had been planned by Obi-Wan's old friend Guerra and his brother Paxxi. For years the evil and cruel Syndicate have been controlling the people through shortages in food, medical supplies, money, and more. And if anyone tries to revolt, they take away they erase their memories. Guerra and Paxxi plead for the Jedis to help them and a band of rebels to stop the Syndicate. At first Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are reluctant to get involved, they change their minds when they find out that somehow the Prince Beju of Gala is somehow involved. But Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan must be very careful... or they might end up having their pasts wiped out forever...
One of my favorites books in the entire Jedi Apprentice series! There's plenty of action and adventure, suspense and excitement. The story doesn't end in this book, continuing in book four, "The Mark of the Crown". Jude Watson has certainly done an astounding job, the plot and story of the book is so unique and interesting and I couldn't put it down! I still enjoy reading the books as much as I did when they first started coming out in the summer of 1999.
This series explains a lot about how Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan first meet. Their beginning is far from simple and all smooth-sailings, which would be pretty monotonous if it was. Though the books are said for ages 9-12, like many other reviewers I agree that the Jedi Apprentice Series are for anybody. Extremely well-written, the emotions, thoughts, and feelings of the main characters are very well put down into words. I also like the different array of humans and aliens which are portrayed, both good and bad; Guerra and Paxxi the Phindians with their strange sense of humor and their mother, Duenna who is so loving and sacrifices everything for person she loves.
The first Jedi Apprentice book is written by Dave Wolverton while all the rest (19 more books) are written by Jude Watson and are all very highly recommended from me. The books don't really 'end' at all, the books ends in either a cliffhanger or with a little glimpse into the future. Believe me, once you start reading them, you'll want to read the next one... then the next one... I can't wait for Jude Watson's next Star Wars series, The Jedi Quest Series with Obi-Wan Kenobi as the Jedi Master and Anakin Skywalker as the Padawan Apprentice.
Another Star Wars Series I recommend and like a lot are the Young Jedi Knights series. The stories are about Jacen and Jaina Solo (twins of Han and Leia Solo), and their friends as they journey on the road to becoming Jedi Knights. More on the teenager level of reading. For adult readings, a few selections I enjoy reading are "The Thrawn Trilogy", "Rogue Planet", "The Jedi Academy Trilogy", "The Corellian Trilogy", and "The Truce at Bakura".

A good third adventure in the series

I must admit that the second book was so good, I wondered if this book could match up to it. I was not disapointed. This book had an extremly well thought out plot, exellent character development, and succeded in being the best yet, which is quite a feat since the second book was so good. For a basic summery, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are about to go on their first adventure together as master and padawan(still don't know what that word means), and they are suddenly hijacked and forced to land on the planet Phindaar instead, and they try to help the oppressed people their. On the way they meet up with Obi-Wan's friend Guerra from the previous book, along with his brother Paxxi, and they go on an exiting adventure together trying to sneak supplies out to the suppressed people. I was wondering in the previous two books, did they forget that Obi-Wan had a brother? At last in this book he is mentioned. I first found this out in the Essential Guide to Characters, that Obi-Wan Kenobi's brother was Owen Lars, the same one who raised Luke along with his wife Beru! Something I still wonder about though, and that I hope the books ahead will answer, is that where exactly did Obi-Wan come from? What is his home planet? Anyway, fans of all ages should not let themselves deterred by the short length and the obvious fact they are most intended for young children. I am fifteen and I love these books. They are definitly on a par with the incredible Young Jedi Knights and Junior Jedi Knights, (which feature Han and Leia's children) and even some of the adult novels I've read.

A different approach

I am one of those people who is forever on a diet, over the years I've tried every new diet that has come along, some worked, some didn't but I wasn't comfortable with any of them really.
It was only after reading this ebook that I realised that perhaps it was my approach to dieting that was maybe at fault. The book is very well written by Rachael, she seems to know her stuff and her new approach to the whole concept of dieting and actually sticking at it is inspirational really.
I started using her idea's over two weeks ago, and so far everything is going according to plan, my weight loss isn't drastic, but is constant and I don't get hunger pangs, which is a big part of being able to stick at the diet. I think it was a right decision to go for this book and would recommend anyone else who has problems dieting to try it.

Compre el libro de segunda mano y me pareció muy caro por el contenido.
Tiene buenos consejos, sobretodo en nutrición por eso le pongo 3 estrellas, pero no más.
Para una visión general de la salud, la desintoxicación y el rejuvenecimiento recomiendo el libro Ayuno Mágico que trata los temas con seriedad y desde la práctica de su autor y a mí me sirvió muchísimo.
