From 1967 until 1971, I served in the U.S. Army as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal operator. In January 1968, I was sent to Dugway Proving Grounds in Utah, where we stockpiled huge amounts of chemical and biological warfare weapons. I was there until July 1968. On March 13, 1968, I was involved in helping clean up the worst nerve gas disaster in this country's history. As a result, I volunteered for Vietnam, where I served from September 4, 1968, until March 24, 1970. This is the story of the hell that my teammates and I went through during those 27 months.

This is what Hell looks like, really, no kidding
By Jim Morris
This book fills a huge gap in the books about the Vietnam War. It is also a tribute to a little known or understood group of incredibly brave men and now women who put their lives on the line every day, usually several times a day. You shoulda been there when the ammo dump blew up, both times. You shoulda been there when the net carrying the enemy dead broke loose and the sky rained dead bodies. You shoulda been there when the nerve gas got out at Dugway and killed sheep for miles around. Well, no you shouldn't, but Stu Steinberg was, and he isn't over it yet. This is one of the most exciting, action-filled books you will ever read. Also one of the most heartbreaking. Also one of the most thought provoking. I can't recommend this book highly enough, especially to devotees of personal accounts of the Vietnam War, and of all the wars since. There weren't many of these guys, and very few people understand the danger they lived through every day. It is a sobering read. But parts of it will crack you up. Really, if you read this kind of stuff you have to read this one, and pass it on to your friends. It's amazing!

You Don't Want the T-Shirt
By A Reader
5 stars, but not because I love it. I hate what it says about what our political leaders do to and with our military.
I hate what the author had to do in Viet Nam, even though he did it with great skill and honor and courage. I hate what those actions in that environment brought into the rest of his life.
Now, is again a time of very personal combat for the US Military (just read official news releaseof the death of three sailors in Afghanistan. what sort of craziness puts sailors in combat in a land-locked country). It involves repeated deployments and cumulative head trauma; It is extremely useful to read the personal experience of one who had these kinds of injuries plus exposure to chemical warfare as well.(Chemical warfare? What to you think agent orange was?) He lived to tell us about it.
I do love one quote in the book that relates to the title: "Religion is for people who don't want to go to hell. Spirituality is for people who have been there and don't want to go back.'
